About Us
Rock Ridge Public Schools was created in 2020 by the merger of two ancient, rival districts--Eveleth-Gilbert and Virginia school districts--the citizens of both old school districts voted to build a new high school and two new elementary schools. The citizens of both school districts also voted to consolidate the two school districts into one. This is the first newly consolidated school district in the State of Minnesota from the past 15 years. And it is probably one of the rarest school consolidations which has occurred not because of financial struggles--both school districts were in solid financial shape--but because of genuine interest to improve the quality of education students were receiving. Students who are and will be attending Rock Ridge Public Schools will be attending schools and receiving an education that are designed around the 21st century skills of Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Citizenship, Character, Entrepreneurship, and Global Competence. The goal is to have the benchmarking standard of “Best in the World,” while using simple but powerful statements such as,“Education to inspire the next generation,” and “Fiercely United,” and “Rock Ridge Rising,” and “Helping students find their magnificent obsession." The new, state-of-the-art Rock Ridge High School for students in grades 7-12 is a unique and research-based model of education that will prepare our students for their personal lives as well as their career aspirations. Rock Ridge High School is the only wall-to-wall career academy school north of the Twin Cities. In addition to Rock Ridge Ridge High School which is located in Virginia behind Slumberland, the district is home to three elementary schools - the newly constructed Laurentian Elementary (PreK-6) located in Eveleth, Parkview Elementary (Gr. PreK-2) located in Virginia, and North Star Elementary (Gr. 3-6) which will be opening its doors following the completion of construction Fall 2024 in Virginia.
